Let’s send MORE kids to camp, with more DIGNITY!
We are so excited to share our new plan with you!
For the past 13 years, through Trek4Kids Hike & Bike, you have been helping us send more than 100 kids each year to summer camp who would otherwise not be able to go. For kids living on low income, we know this is so important that we need to send even more kids to camp, with greater dignity.
For families living on low income, camp is a luxury few can afford.
However research is clear that camp provides important benefits like building an increased sense of hope and self-esteem. It develops positive values and improved physical and social skills – all of which contribute to a child’s overall resilience and well-being. This helps shape their future!
Camp sponsorship is an important part of House of Friendship’s preventative work in low-income neighbourhoods Region-wide that is changing the odds for these children, helping them reach their full potential and overcome the barriers that poverty creates.
Starting this spring, in place of the Trek4Kids event, we will be reaching out to our broader community to ask for their financial support. We need to be able to share the need with more people, in a better way, so each of us has the opportunity to personally help change the odds for children living on low income in Waterloo Region.
Here’s the plan!
Going forward, the Summer Camp Sponsorship program will be directly administered by our Family Outreach Program team members who work with families Region-wide. Families will have the opportunity to play a greater role in sending their kids to camp, including choosing the camp their children will attend. Family Outreach team members will also determine the individualized level of support required, allowing funds to assist more families. This will also reduce administration costs.
