Hockey Helps the Homeless Raises $322,000

Hockey Helps the Homeless Waterloo Region raised $322,000 for local organizations fighting homelessness. Special recognition goes to Swiftspace Inc. for donating $100,000 in matching funds.

Hockey Helps the Homeless Waterloo Region is continuing to face off against homelessness!

In spite of the pandemic, this volunteer committee achieved a record year and will be sharing the proceeds from this year’s virtual Hockey Helps the Homeless Canada Life Cup – an amazing $322,000 – with Waterloo Region’s shelters, including House of Friendship!

Their efforts will help community members who are homeless become housed. Thank you for your incredible commitment!

It’s fitting that this news comes during National Volunteer Week.  Only the dedicated efforts of the volunteers behind Hockey Helps the Homeless Waterloo Region made this year’s event possible.

A special thank you to Swiftspace Inc., which donated a fundraising match of $100,000 to kick-start this year’s campaign, which saw support from an additional 760 donors.

In a media release, Rob Way, as chair of the Hockey Helps the Homeless Waterloo Region organizing committee, and CEO of Swiftspace, said, “When it couldn’t be HHTH business as usual, Swiftspace wanted to make a difference by providing a $100,000 matching gift with the hope it would encourage others to become ‘Game Changers.’ We are very pleased to see that the end result is that HHTH will be able to donate $322,000, the most ever in the history of the event.”

Congratulations to the entire team at Hockey Helps the Homeless Waterloo Region for your ongoing commitment to fight homelessness in Waterloo Region! Because of you, men are getting healthier and housed. Thank you!

Money raised will benefit the following organizations: House of Friendship, oneROOF Youth Services, Y-W Kitchener Waterloo, Lutherwood and Cambridge Shelter Corporation.
