House of Friendship’s 84th AGM

House of Friendship Board President Karen Bjerland presents the Buhr Legacy of Fellowship to Fredlyne Kayee, Nate Caudle and Abdulmajid Abdulmajid, on behalf of all Neighbourhood Youth Leaders.

It was amazing to see so many of you at this year’s Annual General Meeting and Strawberry Social at Catalyst 137!

On Monday, June 19, more than 200 community members gathered together for our 84th AGM  and enjoyed a time of connection and community, and enjoyed the chance to learn more about the impact of their support.

Interim Community Services Director Dauda Raji shared a message on Inspiring Leaders of Tomorrow, and how vital it is to provide future leaders in low-income neighbourhoods with education, experience and engagement to help them grow and learn and overcome the challenges that poverty stacks against them.

At the AGM, the Board of Directors also recognized and honoured Neighbourhood Youth Leaders with the Buhr Legacy of Fellowship, a special recognition to community members who embody House of Friendship’s values of compassion, inclusion, justice, dignity, and hope.

“In a season of life when teens face the daunting task of figuring out who they want to be and how they will get there, youth living on low income face extra barriers. When these youth rise to the challenge, embrace their strengths and step into leadership roles in their own spheres of influence – whether at school, in their faith community, or in their own neighbourhood – they create a brighter future for themselves and those they help and inspire in the process!”

Accepting on behalf of all Neighbourhood Youth Leaders who make a difference in our community were Abdulmajid Abdulmajid, Fredlyne Kayee, Nate Caudle.

After the meeting, guests enjoyed a chance to connect and socialize while enjoying some strawberry treats. It was a wonderful gathering filled with camaraderie and a shared commitment to creating a healthier community where everyone can belong and thrive.

Attendees also received a copy of this year’s Community Report, which shares stories of resilience and hope made possible by the ongoing support of community members.

A heartfelt thanks to Herrle’s Country Farm Market for providing the fresh strawberries and to the team at KPMG and our amazing volunteers for their hard work in preparing and serving refreshments and delicious strawberry shortcake. Your support and contributions made the event even more delightful!
