This September, we had a party at Sunnydale Community Centre in Waterloo, celebrating the 25 years of community and connection that you’ve made possible, through your faithful support.
Linda Kruger, who worked at Sunnydale for many years and was there when it first started in 1999, shared how Sunnydale has served not only as a place where community members could get the help they need, but also as a home.
“It’s such a joy to see everyone mingling, having conversations and just coming together,” said Linda. “That’s what Sunnydale is. It’s a place where friendships happen. It’s a place where people have been there for one another.”
Mamaye, a community member who also works at Sunnydale, said that the community centre has been there for her family.
“I want to say thank you from all the people here. When my children were young, we got help to send them to camp, and join sports. Sunnydale helped us.”
Clare Wagner, House of Friendship’s Community Services Director, shared how Sunnydale has a special place in her heart.
“I know you’re not supposed to have a favourite, but I do. The community centre is truly a fantastic place. I love all that you, as community members, bring here in a world that is sometimes a little overwhelming and a little hard to be part of. I know some of your stories, and they are hard to hold.”
“But you are strong – and we are stronger together. You have built this space to be a space that is safe to share those stories in and to love each other in. It is an honour to work with you.”
Thank you for being faithful supporters of of this vital Neighbourhoods work that is building community and connection for families throughout Waterloo Region!
