Camp makes a difference that lasts for a lifetime. When children attend summer camp, they can gain
the tools and skills they need to succeed later in life. Children grow in self-confidence and resilience and
have a greater ability to resist the challenges they might be facing.
For families living on low income, camp is a luxury few can afford.
For the past 12 years, your support of Trek4Kids Hike & Bike has made that dream a reality for more than 100 children each year who were able to attend overnight summer camp. Thank you for your support, whether by volunteering, donating, or trekking.
As we grow our preventative work for children living with the effects of poverty, we know we need to send more kids to camp, and to do it with greater dignity. To accomplish this, we are changing our approach.
Our Region-wide team of Family Outreach Workers will now administer this program, giving families a greater role in sending their child to camp. They can now choose a camp that best fits the needs and interests of their children, with an individualized level of financial support matched to their family’s needs and goals.
This year, to invite our larger community to support this preventative work, we will replace Trek4Kids
Hike & Bike with a new campaign including direct mail, online and the opportunity to host your
own walkathon. This will allow us to share the importance of the life-changing impact of camp
beyond the limits of Trek, as well as our preventative work in low-income neighbourhoods.
