As planned, the three-month Temporary Winter Overnight Drop-In Program wrapped up on April 30, 2018. Operated by House of Friendship staff and funded by the Region of Waterloo, this program was provided at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in downtown Kitchener.
With funding until the end of April, this program allowed St. Matthews and House of Friendship to provide a temporary, safe and flexible overflow space at night for Waterloo Region residents during the cold winter months as our emergency shelters were at capacity. House of Friendship staff had the opportunity to meet with men and women who were struggling with homelessness, and assist them to develop housing plans.
“Our Charles Street Men’s Shelter continues to serve this community by providing a warm, safe and caring place for men facing homelessness, as our 51-bed capacity and resources allow,” said House of Friendship Executive Director John Neufeld. “We continue to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable each and every day, helping find housing solutions and grateful to be part of this community’s approach in the fight against homelessness.”
