You Give the Gift that Keeps On Giving

Marlene O’Brien wasn’t even born yet when her parents received a Christmas food hamper.

She knows the story, though, because of the lasting impact it had on her family. The story has been told over and over again through the generations because of how much it mattered. Marlene even wrote down this story, so that the younger members of the family will never forget this special gift.

Seventy years ago, caring individuals like you took the time to provide food for her family when her father was unable to work because of an injured hand. The family was running out of money, and food, when the timely gift arrived – a gift that made all the difference.

That hamper made it possible for them to not only eat, but to also celebrate the holiday season together, with a few special treats thrown in
– a further reminder that they were not alone, that someone cared.

“You don’t know the impact you are having when you give. Your gift can be the gift that keeps on giving through future generations, just like  with my family. It goes well beyond Christmas.”

As a result, Marlene’s family gives back today by supporting other families who are facing the challenge they once faced. Marlene is also a lead volunteer with our Christmas Hamper program every December.

“If we weren’t able to do this every year, Christmas wouldn’t be the same. Christmas Hampers is such an important part of our Christmas.”

This program exists because of you, and those who support hampers through the Rotary Turkey Drive.

Every year, thousands of men, women and children are able to share a holiday meal together with their loved ones. Your support, along with the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, shows them that they are not alone, that someone cares.

Through your generosity, the needs of families are met during the holiday season, but you are also doing
so much more.

The ripple effect of your gift may last generations, like it did for Marlene and her family. You never know the difference your gift will make.
