This community is amazing! Because of you, our Supermarket Blitz on Feb. 8 was a huge success, raising $24,000 and an incredible 61,000 lbs. of potatoes at 28 local grocery stores!
It took an army of 350 volunteers, including local members of Waterloo Regional Police Services, Waterloo and Kitchener fire departments, local dignitaries and community members to collect cash and potato donations throughout the day, but the real heroes are all of you, who so generously donated in support of Blitz.
Proceeds from the Supermarket Blitz go to support our Emergency Food Hampers program, which feeds approximately 20,000 men, women and children in Kitchener and Waterloo throughout the year. Parents who don’t have enough to feed their families are able to do so, because of you!
The Supermarket Blitz is part of our month-long February Potato Blitz. There is still time for you to organize your own potato fundraiser in support of the Potato Blitz, or to make an online donation in support of hungry families in our community. Every donation means that one more family doesn’t have to worry about food, and can start making plans for a better future.
We’re grateful to the support of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, who is providing warehouse space for donated potatoes, keeping them fresh until they are needed for food hampers.
Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Supermarket Blitz. We couldn’t have done it without you!
