Supportive Housing & Community Hub on Charles!

We are so excited to share with you our vision to build a Supportive Housing and Community Hub on our current Charles Street property in downtown Kitchener, replacing our aging shelter that will move to its new location at 190 Weber St. N. in Waterloo early next year.

This new facility will add a third residence to our Charles Street housing campus, providing 72 more supportive housing units for single adults exiting homelessness. With the existing 88 units of affordable and supportive housing at Eby Village and Charles Village, this location will now support over 150 community members.

This project will also include a community hub to provide on-site spaces and services to support the well-being and belonging of all 150 tenants across our three residences. It will feature a full medical clinic, a double gym, walking track, café, kitchen, lounge, spiritual room and communal meeting spaces, as well as a dedicated outdoor courtyard.

Additionally, this location will co-locate our administrative offices.

As project planning is underway, early commitments of support are incredibly encouraging for this innovative project that will provide a long-term solution for individuals recovering from homelessness, meeting their complex and challenging needs.

If you are interested in a conversation to explore how you too might invest into this project, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to Development Director Margaret Lucas, at MargaretL@houseoffriendship.org or 519-742-8327 x 122.

We can’t wait to complete the planning work so we can share more details with you in the months to come!
